Moldova Prepares for Hooking Up to Romania Gas-Transport System
OREANDA-NEWS. December 01, 2011. The government adopted a resolution to give a land lot of 1,2395 ha near the village of Todiresti (the Ungheni region) at the ministry of economy’s disposal in order to construct a junction line between gas-transport systems of Moldova and Romania.
The gas-main pipeline Ungheni-Iasi is planned to be constructed within 1,5-2 years to allow Moldova to hook up to the gas-transport system of Romania and to get an access to alternative natural gas deliveries.
In part, the pipeline construction is going to be backed by the EU which grants to Chisinau and Bucharest 7 mln. euros: 3 mln. to Moldova and 4 mln. to Romania.
For the gas pipeline to be constructed Moldova needs another 6 mln. euro. Moldova’s government hopes to cover the shortfall by the Romania’s grant within the 100 mln. euros gratis aid meant for various fields including the energy one. The EBRD’s loan has been also considering as a possible variant.
