OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2011. The first sea cargo ship will arrive in the Giurgiulesti port from southern Moldova on 28 November 2011. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar made statements to this effect at working visit to the port, the Economics Ministry s information and media communication service has said.

The head of the administration council of the port s operator, Danube Logistics, Thomas Moser, said the first cargo ship rented by the company, which carries containers, will enter the port on 28 November 2011. The ship will weekly sail to Marport in Istanbul, Turkey, and will provide services to residents of the Giurgiulesti Port, as well to exporters and importers operating in Moldova.

Thomas Moser voiced confidence that the Moldovan-Turkish trade relations are sufficiently intense for the line to be efficient, and at the same time, offers access to long-distance sea transport via the Turkish port. "In 2010, 375,000 tons of goods were carried through the port, and we expect this figure to considerably increase in the next years," Thomas Moser said.

Valeriu Lazar said the Giurgiulesti International Port is a centre of regional development in the infrastructure field and a source of jobs for the residents from the zone. We welcome production companies to Giurgiulesti, as the region has about 100,000 residents within a radius of 25 km from the port. Here our interests - creating new jobs and launching export-oriented goods - coincide," Valeriu Lazar added.
