OREANDA-NEWS. November 21, 2011. Chinese Society for Metals 9th national representative meeting is held in Beijing Conference Centre. The meeting elects Chinese Society for Metals' new leadership team. Former vice chairman of CPPCC National Committee and former president of Chinese Academy of Engineering Xu Kuangdi is elected as Chinese Society for Metals 9th council chairman, Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. chairman Xu Le Jiang is elected as Chinese Society for Metals 9th council vice chairman, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

Chinese Society for Metals representative meeting is the highest authority of the Society and is held every five years. At the meeting, Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. former chairman Xie Qihua is elected as 9th council honorary director and Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. general manager He Wenbo is elected as the 9th council executive director. Zhao Xia, Zhao Zhouli, Li Haiping, Cui Jian, Lou Dingbo, Zhou Jianfeng, Yu Ziquan, Li Ziwen are elected as the 9th council directors.

At the meeting, advanced collectives and excellent individuals are commended. Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. gains the Chinese Society for Metals "advanced collective award". Baosteel Caring for Next Generation Committee deputy director Zhang Qingbo gains the Chinese Society for Metals "learning organization contribution award". Song Xiaohe from Baosteel Science Association gains the Chinese Society for Metals "excellent learning organization worker award".

The meeting points out that after years of rapid growth, the incongruities which restrict the further development of the steel industry have become increasingly prominent. In this context, China's steel industry has to accelerate the realization of the "four transformations", that is, transformation from the pursuit of production expansion to the  intensive management focusing on variety and quality and efficiency; from only focusing on the development of iron and steel main industry to not only strengthening the iron and steel main industry but also expanding to iron and steel upper and downstream industry chain; from excessive development in the inland to development at coasts and regions close to raw materials and customers; from importing and accepting technological integrated innovation to possessing original self-integrated invention and innovation which can guide the industry development change and which relies on scientific and technological progress, thus accelerating the transformation of development mode.
