Yanukovych: We Must Develop Cooperative Movement in Agriculture
OREANDA-NEWS. November 21, 2011. President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych believes it is important to develop cooperative movement in agriculture, he said at a festive meeting on the occasion of the Agriculture Worker’s Day.
"Along with strengthening private farming and large-scale production, everything necessary should be done to develop a new cooperative movement in rural areas. It should become an important foundation for the restructuring of agriculture," he said.
President Yanukovych said the development of cooperatives would improve the profitability of agricultural production, strengthen the budget and opportunities of every family living in the countryside.
Viktor Yanukovych also drew attention to the need to develop efficient agrarian market infrastructure, including transportation and logistics, retail networks, etc.
According to the President, Ukraine also has great potential to develop organic agriculture. He noted that there are more than 100 farms in our country adhering to the principles of organic farming and certified by the applicable international standards. Viktor Yanukovych said that the adoption of a law on organic production would support this type of farming.
"Global food market has a strong tendency to grow," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President also called promising the development of modern vertically integrated high-tech complexes of food production to provide domestic market with the products of high level of processing. "This is one of the leading objectives of agrarian reform," he said.
