Bashneft among World Fastest Growers Says Platts
OREANDA-NEWS. November 18, 2011. Bashneft has been recognized along with 15 other Russian companies in Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings, an annual rating of companies in the global energy sector. The Platts report places Bashneft among the world’s fastest growing energy companies. The 2011 rating was prepared from a comprehensive analysis of 2010 financial indicators-value of assets, revenue, profit, and return on investments-for public companies with assets worth more than USD 3.5 billion.

This is the first time that Bashneft has been included in the Platts Top 250 ranking. The company immediately took 62nd place worldwide, 31st place among energy companies in the EMEA (Europe-Middle East-Africa) region, 6th place among companies engaged in Exploration and Production, and 6th place among the fastest growing energy companies of the world.
"Bashneft’s inclusion in the prestigious Platts Top 250 rating is international acknowledgement of our company’s success in carrying forth its development strategy," Bashneft President Alexander Korsik noted. "We entered the group of the world’s fastest growing oil companies by methodically executing our plan for vertical integration and consolidation of goods and cash flows. Our strategic measures translated into dynamic trends in financial indicators that brought us into the group."
The rating of the 50 fastest growing energy companies, one of several rankings within the Platts Top 250, is determined through aggregated growth in revenue for the past three years (three-year compound growth rate, or CGR). With a 57.9 percent CRG, Bashneft took 6th place in that important rating, simultaneously becoming 4th among the fastest growing energy companies of the EMEA region and 2nd among Exploration and Production companies. Unfortunately, Platts didn’t consider Bashneft’s 2010 transformation from an oil producing company into a vertically integrated oil company. Had it been included in that category, Bashneft would have taken first place among companies in Integrated Oil and Gas Refining and Marketing.
Background: Platts has compiled the rating of the 250 best performing companies in the energy sector since 2001. It draws on financial information from S&P Capital IQ, which like Platts is a member-company of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. The 2011 ranking was announced on November 2, 2011, as part of Singapore International Energy Week.
