OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2011. During the grand opening of electrified areas Poltava-Kremenchug the Director General of Railways Volodymyr Kozak said that by March 1, 2012 will be electrified 176 km of area Poltava-Lozova.

Recall that on the orders of vice Prime Minister - Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Borys Kolesnikov, Ukrzaliznytsia approved a program of electrification of railways of Ukraine for 2011-2016 years.

The program provides electrification of 1,562 km of operational length of railway lines during the 2011-2016 years on the areas entering into appropriating directions of distinction of movement of passenger and cargo trains and on sites of introduction of high-speed movement. In particular, it is stipulated to electrify sites: Poltava - Krasnograd - Lozova (176 km) - in 2012; Dolynska - Mykolaiv - Kherson -Djankov (394 km) - in the years 2013-2016; Mykolaiv - Kolosivka (105 km) - in 2013 and others.

The volume of capital investments for the program is about 17.3 billion UAH. Thus at the end of the program cost savings will be about 2 billion and the average payback period of capital investment would exceed eight years.

For today Ukraine on absolute length of the electrified railways borrows 10 seat among the countries of the world and 6 - among the countries of the Europe. The fraction of the electrified sites from the general operational length of railways makes 45.5 %, thus the fraction of electrodraft in the general turnover of goods makes 89.7 %.
