Joint ATMs of Sampo and Nordea Becomes Safest in Estonia
OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2011. The joint ATM network of Sampo and Nordea has been the safest in Estonia since November this year. All outdoor ATMs are equipped with anti-skimming devices, which make copying card data impossible, reported the press-centre of Sampo.
Sampo Bank’s Head of Cards Ainar Nurk said that ATMs several security measures are used in ATMs and no card data have been copied in ATMs equipped with anti-skimming equipment.
“It is impossible to install devices that copy card data on ATMs that are equipped with anti-skimming devices, because both the keyboard and the card slot are protected,” said Nurk. “On the other hand, the system is also protected with connections to the control centre: any attempts to remove or damage the anti-skimming will active the alarm and a security team will arrive.”
Head of Card Operations for Nordea Bank Margus Aun says that past experience has shown that the anti-skimming devices installed on ATMs have functioned well and no card data have been copied on these machines.
“We now made a maximum contribution to guaranteeing security by covering our entire ATM network with anti-skimming devices,” added Aun.
The card slots on ATMs equipped with anti-skimming devices look different. Card slots in these ATMs are level with the body of the ATM. The keyboards of ATMs are also equipped with protective devices that make it impossible to steal PINs with technical devices.
