OREANDA-NEWS. November 15, 2011. The public debt has grown by USD 61,52 mln. or by 5,6% as compared with the same period of the last year, the ministry of finance spokesperson reported.

As of January, 1, the external public debt of Moldova has made USD 1 bln. 116,17 mln, totaling USD 1 bln. 094,14 mln. in the end of September in last year.

Increase of the debt is explained by external borrowings sums surpassing payments on external debt service by 22,98 mln. as well as by positive shifts in USD exchange rate versus other currencies in the amount of USD 16,51 mln. The external debt of Moldova has increased by USD 342,5 mln. or 44,3% in 2010, which is 18,9% of the Moldova’s GDP.
