OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2011. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power utility, has been providing reliable and quality power to the city of Mumbai for more than nine decades. As a recognition of the occupational and safety management practices of its Trombay thermal power station, the company received a certificate of approval for OHSAS 18001 for three years.

OHSAS 18000 is an international occupational health and safety management system specification. OHSAS 18001 was created via a concerted effort from a number of the world’s leading national standards bodies, certification bodies, and specialist consultancies. Tata Power’s Trombay station was certified after a two-day audit undertaken successfully for all three systems. There was no single non conformance (NC) found during the audit done by an external agency TUV-Nord.

Speaking on the recognition, Ashok Sethi, vice president, Mumbai licence area, said, “We are committed to world-class quality and safety management practices to provide value to our customers. It is our endeavour to maintain and continuously improve our occupation heath and safety management system. We are also happy that we could successfully complete certification audit without any NCs.”

Tata Power’s Trombay thermal power station was also awarded the top honour for stable and outstanding safety performance at the 10th Annual Greentech Safety Award 2011. Further, the plant was also bestowed with several quality awards at the recent Quality Circle Forum of India. Recently, Trombay thermal power station has been conferred the most admired top honour ‘Gold’ at the 12th Annual Greentech Environment Award 2011 for outstanding achievement in Environmental Management in the Thermal Power category. It also received the top honour ‘Gold’ for the Best Environmental Performance Power Plant, and the ‘Bronze’ award in the Environmental Company of the Year category at the Asian Power Awards 2011 held in Malaysia.
