FAS Protects Brewers Interests
OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2011. Representatives of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) took part in an International Conference “Strategy for Developing the Brewing Industry at the Modern Stage”, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.
Representatives of the Union of Russian Brewers, the leading international brewing companies, small and medium business, research industry institutes, the authorities, particularly, the lower house of the Russian Parliament and Rosalcoholregulirovanie (the Federal Service for regulating Alcohol Market) took part in the Conference.
The focus of the discussion was on the key regulatory changes that can be introduced by adopting draft Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “On Alcohol Products Safety”.
In particular, the new definition of beer can transfer many recognized Russian and international beer brands in the category of beer drinks. The ban to bottle beer in PE packing, along with the ban for packaging re-use can create additional market opportunities for producers of other types of packaging.
“On the market of circulation of alcohol products, beer industry is more concentrated than production of strong alcoholic beverages and wine. It means that the expert opinion of beet makers will undoubtedly be taken into consideration for adopting technical rules and standards. To draft proposals, FAS is prepared to provide the site of the Expert Council for protecting competition on the market of circulation of alcohol products”, said Vladimir Mishelovin, the Head of FAS Department for Control over the Authorities.
