OREANDA-NEWS. November 07, 2011. New passenger terminal opened at Bukhara international airport. The representatives of the Bukhara regional administration, Uzbekistan Airways national air company and other structures participated in the opening ceremony of the terminal. The director of the airport T.Bakhranov was presented a symbolic key.

The speakers at the ceremony noted that the construction of the airport and its infrastructure was carried out with consideration of the modern requirements to international airports.

The new terminal will function round the clock and provides optimal conditions for the passengers coming and leaving the city.

The capacity of the airport is 400 passengers per hour, which is almost three times more than previously. It has VIP and CIP halls, a room for mothers with small children, a medical room, ticket sales and currency exchange offices, a post office and duty free shops.

Bukhara airport today serves not only regular flights, but also a growing number of charter flights with tourists from many countries.

According to Uzbekistan Airways, in January-September the airport served 1,914 outgoing flights, carrying over 74,000 passengers, which is 19% more than planned.

The airport was granted the itnernational status in 1999. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, the airport was named the best CIS airport in its category by the “Airport” international association.
