UGC Eyes Grain Terminal in Far East
OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2011.United Grain Company (UGC) plans to build a grain terminal in the Far East, the company’s spokesman said.
According to Victor Krupenin, most likely the new facility for handling grain cargo will be based at Vostochny port.
The Far East grain terminal is projected to handle 3 million tons by 2015, in 2017 the facility will be able to export as much as 5 million tons of grain. The spokesman said the company is focused on the project investment feasibility.
"The volume of production and exports of Russian grain has grown steadily in recent years. Russian grain exports are estimated at 40-45 million tons by 2020. Grain supplies in the volume of 5-6 million tons to South East Asia is one of the Russian grain exports development," said Deputy UGCo’s Deputy General Director Aram Ghukasyan, who participated in Russian-Japanese negotiations on expansion of Russia’s grain exports to Asia.
In addition, the company plans to create for grain efficient logistics in Siberia a network of 6 silos of annual capacity of 1.5 - 1 8 million tons of grain.
