OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2011. Andres Keevallik, Rector of Tallinn University of Technology and Taavi Veskimagi, Chairman of the Board of Elering AS signed a protocol of common intentions, which lays a foundation for fostering bilateral scientific and development activity, training of energy engineers and increasing awareness of the public in the field of energetics, reported the press-centre of TUT.

Considering the changes taking place within energy economy on a global scale as well as within Estonia, it is increasingly important to integrate academic knowledge into practical management of power systems. Important actions of 2012 within the agreement will be, among other things, research on possibility of management of efficient electricity consumption, socio-economic analysis of energy economy’s various development scenarios and raising the efficiency of electricity and gas markets’ modelling.

“Cooperation with Elering is beneficial for the university in several ways. We will gain relevant input for the learning process. We will help train energy engineers and increase awareness in energetics. On the other hand, we can incorporate the developments in the company and their needs for development into scientific work of the university, “said Tea Varrak, Director of TUT Innovation and Business Center.

Taavi Veskimagi, Chairman of the Board of Elering added that intensifying cooperation with Tallinn University of Technology is an important cornerstone in launching an energetics competence center at Elering. Such a center is best suited to act as a cooperation framework by increasing general awareness of energetics and by leading practical research activity in the field. “The cooperation agreement that was concluded confirms the cooperation that has gone on before and gives a clearer definition of our common activities, “said Veskimagi.
Application research and development projects necessary for increasing security of supply will be implemented within the competence center project. Elering, in cooperation with the university, will contribute to preserving and increasing knowledge of energetics by training energy engineers, which includes internship programmes with Elering, providing employees of Elering energetics training at Tallinn University of Technology and including the employees of Elering in the teaching process. A stipend will also be provided to Doctoral candidates writing Doctoral theses in the field of energetics, or a related field.
