NEC Increases Compact Microwave Communications System Shipments
OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2011.NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the beginning of shipments of the new iPASOLINK series of compact microwave communications systems to Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (MTS; NYSE: MBT), a leading telecommunications operator in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In order to expand and modernize MTS' communications systems, NEC will deliver 15,000 iPASOLINK transmitters to MTS in 2011.
iPASOLINK will allow MTS to increase the bandwidth capability of channels and the total capacity networks on internal communication lines. New iPASOLINK equipment is being installed in all of MTS' service regions, which will facilitate their transition to fully functional IP-based networks.
One of the key components of the iPASOLINK platform is a powerful embedded switch, which provides traffic optimization, support for key functions and protocol signal transferring. The usage of a high-level modulation and a cross-polarization system (XPIC) ensures that MTS clients will have an Internet carrying capacity of up to 920 Mb/sec.
NEC will also deliver ePASOLINK, a digital microwave system from the PASOLINK family that provides ultra-high link throughputs of up to 1.2 Gbps in the E-band spectrum range of 70/80 GHz.
"In response to the active traffic growth in the networks of mobile and fixed communication operators, NEC offers a reliable and economically effective option for expanding the carrying capacity of the Web," says Alexey Shashkov, deputy sales director of CJSC "NEC Neva Communications Systems," an NEC subsidiary based in Russia. "As the volume of traffic continues to increase, the module architecture of the new PASOLINK series allows to lead the investment step by step and to quickly manage network resources."
"Cooperation with NEC is a natural step for MTS in an ambitious program of modernization and capacity expansion of 2G and 3G networks," said Sergei Vorozhtsov, technical director of MTS in the Volga region. "This collaboration will allow MTS to rapidly expand transmission channels for subscribers, increase the rate of data transfer and improve the quality of voice services. It will be especially helpful in outlying regions".
