OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2011.Azerbaijan has got the right of transit of its gas to Europe via Turkey.

Today in Turkey, BP Azerbaijan’s president Rashid Javanshir and BOTAS executive director Fazil Shenel have signed an agreement on gas transit via Turkey and a framework agreement.

In turn, president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullaev and Fazil Shenel signed a gas sale & purchase agreement.

The package of these agreements will enable the BP-led partnership on Shah Deniz Project in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to make a final investment decision on Phase 2 of Shah Deniz field development, as well as to complete choice of route for gas export from Shah Deniz 2 to Europe via Turkey before the end of 2011.

In parallel, the SOCAR receives the right for independent gas sales in the Turkish market.
