OREANDA-NEWS. October 25, 2011. Within the frameworks of the preparation of the Agreement on free trade area, Ukraine has agreed with the European Union about duty-free import about 48 thousand cars per year, produced in the EU countries. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov at a meeting with the Head of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) Yves van der Straaten.

"Our customers should be able to buy any cars. But our auto industry must rise to the level of international manufacturers and worthy to compete with them. We have carried on negotiations with the EU within the frameworks of the FTA creation and we have agreed on the duty-free importation of about 48 thousand cars a year," Mykola Azarov has noted.

He has stressed that such amount corresponds to the traditional pre-crisis volume of imports in 2005-2007.

The Prime Minister has also promised that the Government would promote in every possible way to development of the Ukrainian car industry and foreign investments in this industry.
