RZD Develops Russian First Hybrid Locomotive
OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2011. Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice-President of Russian Railways, has agreed the technical terms of reference during the development stage of the TEM9H SinaraHybrid, a shunting locomotive with a hybrid engine, reported the press-centre of RZD.
The project to develop Russia’s first hybrid locomotive is being undertaken by the engineering company Innovation Development Centre CTM, which is part of Sinara-Transport Machines.
The SinaraHybrid will be a technologically innovative locomotive with four axles and electric transmission with a variable alternating current individual drive to each wheel pair and a total capacity of 1,200 horsepower.
It will be equipped with lithium-ion batteries (accumulators) and super condensers and have increased specifications with regard to the environment and energy efficiency.
Diesel fuel consumption will fall by 40% and exhaust emissions reduced to 55%, which corresponds to European standards adopted for the rolling stock of that class.
Thanks to an innovative approach to the development of the TEM9H SinaraHybrid, the new locomotive will have a superior technical performance compared to the TEM9base model.
In total, over 20 innovative technical solutions not previously been applied by Russian producers of locomotive will be incorporated during the development of the SinaraHybrid.
The main high-tech components, including an asynchronous traction drive and microprocessor control systems for the locomotive’s hybrid drive, as well as the algorithms needed for its operation, are being developed by Russian scientists and designers with international experience.
A Russian-made SinaraHybrid prototype will be produced at the Lyudinovsky Locomotive Plant in late 2011. Production of a development batch of the locomotives is planned for the beginning in 2013.
