OREANDA-NEWS. October 19, 2011. Cotton growers in Balkan Velayat were the first in the country to fulfil their contractual obligations on the eve of the 20th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan. They have delivered 5,000 tons of ‘white gold’ to the receiving points.

As is known, irrigated lands in Balkan Velayat have been sown with cotton this year. Cotton was sown mainly in Serdar and Bereket Etraps and the fertile oasis fed by the waters of the Karakum River located between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag Mountains. The middle stapled cotton varieties such as 133 and C-2606 which are adapted well to local soil and climatic conditions were sown in the western region of the country.

The success of Balkan Velayat cotton growers is a result of their hard work, everyday care for sown lands in compliance with agrotechnical norms and requirements and use of advanced technologies for raising the level of cotton yield.

Cotton growers in Balkan Velayat who have gained this outstanding achievement in the cotton campaign continue working to pick this year’s harvest. Their labour is inspired by substantial economic incentives provided through the large-scale reforms launched in the agro-industrial sector.
