Moldova Energy Security Is under Threat
OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2011. Moldova's energy security is under threat because of the trial rose against the company "Moldelectrica" - Valeriu Lazar. As the Minister of Economy after a meeting of the Council of Economic Security said, the major distribution company in the country is illegally involved is litigation with Ukrainian firm "Energoalyans" sue for about USD 60 million.
Justice Minister Oleg Yefim draw the link between the raider attacks on Moldovan banks and a lawsuit against "Moldelectrica." According to him, there are certain similarities in the organization of these processes. He said that in this criminal case the state appealed to the law firm that will represent the country in international organizations.
Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar said that the claim of the Ukrainian company may threaten energy security throughout the country.
As it was previously reported, the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine because of the historic debt of Moldova in the amount of more than USD 55 million for electricity seized two areas of high-voltage power lines located in the territory of Ukraine owned by the Moldovan company. "Energoalyans" also initiated a number of lawsuits against the earlier "Moldtranselektro" and "Moldelectrica", and seeks payment of more than USD 20 million in basic historical debt for electricity, and about USD 35 million - in the form of losses from inflation and interest rates.
