OREANDA-NEWS. October 7, 2011. There was a meeting of Perm Engine Company team with Georgy Grechko, the famous pilot-astronaut and twice the Hero of the Soviet Union. The meeting was organized within the framework of the project "Perm Open University" which is realized with the support of Perm region Ministry of Culture, Youth Policy and Mass Communications.

The meeting saw more than 500 participants. The famous astronaut fully captivated the audience attention, telling about twists and turns of his orbital life and sharing his sincere, worldly and wise observations of the efforts, courage, self-restraint and smartness of all the participants of space programs required to build reliable foundation for Russian aerospace complex today.

There were lots of questions, and one of them was connected with the principles of organization of work in the design-engineering department of Sergey Korolev, the Chief Soviet design engineer of the rocket technology, with whom Grechko had worked for many years.

- It was just the beginning of my career in Korolev's design-engineering department, - Georgy Grechko told, - and once I was called to Sergey Korolev in the evening, after hours. I have heard about his severity. Firstly I lost my courage, and then thought that there were no reasons to blame me or to praise. That's why there were no reasons for me to worry.

Do you know how the people with a lower position are usually accepted? Your boss is sitting at his table and you're sitting at his side. But Korolev got off the table! Just imagine, he, the Chief designing engineer, and me, practically a newcomer! He went on asking about my institute, and the lectures we attended. Then he asked what books and what music I preferred, what theaters I liked to visit...

This was the moment I realized wherefrom his strength came. He placed his bets on people! He selected the best specialists, educated and taught them. He was able to create a real team. That's why we were always leaders with him! And definitely, we also worked hard to meet his expectations throughout the day and night. It was not money we worked for. Our main goal was to move forward, to reach the maximum results and not to let our industry and team down.

Summing up the results of the meeting, Ilya Fomin, the CEO Deputy and Production Director said: "We'd like to thank Georgy Grechko for his choosing our company - one of the biggest engine building enterprises in Russia. At present we' re realizing a large scale program of production modernization and mastering of the new technologies and types of products, and also taking part in setting up Perm aerospace cluster. This work is done under the framework of the development strategy of the United Engine Building Corporation and with the support of Perm region and state leaders on the whole.

To realize these projects effectively it is necessary for every employee to be aware of the fact that the future of our industry depends directly on his or her efforts. Georgy Grechko's example, who has devoted all his life to the struggle for leadership in the sky and space is very illustrative. The experience of such legendary people is to be passed from one generation to the new one, serving a road map for future generations of workers, designers and managers".
