Moldova Increases Electric Power Import 67,3 Times in 1H
OREANDA-NEWS. October 07, 2011. According to the country’s balance of payment, particularly, electric power import to Moldova in value terms increased in January-June 2011 67.3 times – from USD 0.2 mln to USD 13.47 mln, according to the National Bank.
A considerable growth of electricity import this year is explained by resumption since April 1, 2011 of Ukrainian electric power supplies that were suspended at the Moldovan side’s initiative in 2009 after it signed a long-term contract with the Moldovan hydroelectric power station. Ukrainian electric power’s cost is 6.1 cents for a kilowatt/hour, meeting the release price of the Moldovan hydroelectric power station.
Ukrainian electricity is supplied to Moldova by the Power Trade company. The Power Trade Director Andrei Favorov said the company plans to provide 30-50% of the Moldovan energy market’s needs with Ukrainian electric power by the end of this year.
