Moldova Harvested 1 160 Thousand Tones of Crops in 2011
OREANDA-NEWS. October 07, 2011. It was said by the agriculture and food industry minister Vasilii Bumacov. According to him, it considerably exceeds results of the crops harvest in 2010 both in terms of quantity and quality of grain. Speaking of the situation in the sector at the meeting of Moldova’s Prime Minister Vladimir Filat with domestic farmers, Vasilii Bumacov said sugar beet harvesting is two weeks behind the schedule, and its supposed losses because of the drought may reach 20%.
The agriculture minister said the main goal in agriculture is to adjust it to the European standards and promote domestic production to the foreign markets. To do that, it is necessary to outline priorities in the sector’s development and to provide competitiveness of domestic production. Farmers also touched upon a whole range of problems, such as logistics and agricultural production infrastructure, access to financing, protection of home markets, creation of market infrastructure in the agricultural sector and others.
Subsidies to agriculture and respective normative frameworks were the main issue of the discussions. The meeting’s participants said the Provision on the order of using resources of the agriculture subsidies fund is a balanced document with a good content. At the same time, they proposed to elaborate a respective law, with wider and fundamental norms. Prime Minister welcomed this proposal, noting that any regulation should be based on real opportunities of financing.
