OREANDA-NEWS. October 5, 2011. This weekend in Rio de Janeiro marks the arrival of the detachable buoy (turret) that is part of the mooring system of the FPSO OSX-1, the OSX production unit that will be used in the extraction of the first OGX oil at Waimea, in the Campos Basin. The buoy is 17 meters high, equal to a six-storey building, 14 meters in diameter and weighs over 700 tons. It was built in Batam, Indonesia and is being brought to Rio by the vessel Happy Dover.

The equipment will be used to connect the mooring system of the OSX-1 and to hook it up to well OGX-26, through flexible risers and umbilicals. Forecast production for this well is for up to 20,000 barrels of oil per day already in 2011. The mooring lines, piles and steel cables of the FPSO OSX-1 mooring system are already in Brazil. The prior installation of this mooring system will allow for a rapid link-up of the unit, reducing the time needed between the arrival of the OSX-1 and when it begins to operate.
