Vodka output in Transnistria Exceeds Cognac Production
OREANDA-NEWS. October 04, 2011. Transnistria produced 1.84 million liters of vodka in January-August 2011, which is 39.4% more than one year ago. For the first time, vodka production exceeded cognac output in the region – by 30 thousand liters.
According to the regional ministry of economy, cognac output also went up, but only 6.5%.
Besides, it was produced 410 thousand liters of liquors (up 24.2%), 220 thousand liters of liqueurs and 880 thousand liters of wines (down 5.4%).
Local beer output increased by almost 19% - to 6.64 million liters.
Vodka production is concentrated in plants of the Sheriff concern in Tiraspol and Ribnita.
Absolute majority of cognac is outputted by the Tiraspol wine/cognac plant – Kvint – 1.76 million liters; the rest – by the Dubossary winery Buchet Moldavii [Bouquet of Moldova].
In money terms, over 8 months it was produced alcohols and beer in the aggregate amount of 228.2 million rubles (US\\$21.9 million), which is almost 40% of regional food industry output.
