OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2011. It was said by Moldova’s Prime Minister Vladimir Filat in an interview to Romanian mas media, noting that Moldova has been looking into the opportunity of joining the AGRI project (Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector).

According to him, this issue was discussed on September 22 at the meeting of the Moldovan Prime Minister with Romania’s President Traian Basescu. Vladimir Filat said Moldova is interested in joining the AGRI, as the dependency on a single source of natural gas- or energy resources supply weakens the country’s energy security.

On September 14, 2010, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary signed a Baku declaration on the AGRI project, envisaging the Azerbaijani gas transportation via gas pipelines to the Black Sea coast of Georgia, where this gas will be liquefied at a special terminal and then supplied by tankers to the Romanian port of Constanta’s terminal. Further, the liquefied gas will be brought to the state of natural gas and by means of the gas infrastructure available on the country’s territory will be used to satisfy Romania’s and other European countries’ needs.

According to the preliminary estimates, implementation of the project will cost 1.2 billion – 4.5 billion euros, depending on the terminals’ capacity that may total 2-8 bln cubic meters of gas a year. The construction is expected to take two years.
