Uzbekistan and China Develop Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2011. The delegation of the People’s Republic of China headed by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo met the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Dilorom Tashmuhamedova in Tashkent.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized that cooperation between Uzbekistan and China was developing in all directions, including the parliamentary system. They discussed issues concerning the current state and prospects of relations between the higher legislative bodies of the two states.
Wu Bangguo addressed the deputies of the Legislative Chamber and the members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis with a speech on “Good-neighborliness and friendship for joint development.”
He stressed that the partnership between Uzbekistan and China was developing dynamically in all fields, based on principles of friendship, mutual interest, trust and respect. He also stressed the similarity of views of the presidents of the two countries on issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international problems.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and China, bilateral ties have been growing in many areas, such as energy, trade, economy, investment, transport and telecommunications, parliamentarism, culture and others.
In 2010, the trade turnover between the two countries reached USD 2.48 billion, and China’s investment in Uzbekistan’s economy made up USD 1.65 billion. By 2015, the countries are planning to increase the bilateral trade volume to USD 5 billion.
