Freight Traffic Grew 24,6% in Moldova in January-August
OREANDA-NEWS. September 27, 2011. Freight traffic in Moldova in January-August 2011 grew 24.6 percent in comparison with the same period last year, to 5,878.1 thousand tones. In August 2011, rail-, automobile-, river- and air- companies transported 1,012.1 thousand tones of cargoes, up 25% from the previous month and 27.5% - from August 2010, according to the National Statistics Office.
In January-August 2011, cargo transportation by railway increased by 35.5 percent in comparison with the same period last year and totaled 2,974.1 thousand tones. The largest share in the total volume of freight loaded at the railway stations in this period belonged to crops and floury production – 36%, ferrous metals and scrap metal – 23.4%, building materials and cement – 17.9%.
Motor cargo transportation in January-August 2011 increased by 15.2 percent in comparison with the same period last year – to 2,809.3 thousand tones. Cargo transportation by the river transport for eight months of 2011 totaled 94 thousand tones (+14.9 percent against the same period of 201). Air freight traffic totaled 1 thousand tones (+29.5%).
