OSCE Delegation Visits Turkmenistan
OREANDA-NEWS. September 21, 2011. A meeting with the delegation representing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) led by OSCE Representative Mrs. Dunya Miyatovich, who is on a visit to the Turkmen capital, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
A focus of the lively discussion was the promising vectors of Turkmenistan-OSCE cooperation particularly in the mass media sector. During the meeting the guests were briefed on the major goals of the programmes of large-scale reforms aimed at promoting the information policy, developing further mass media and updating national laws regulating this sphere. It was emphasized that these vectors served as the priority aspects of the policy pursued in the Turkmen state in the epoch of new Revival under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov
A key component of the progressive reforms is the study and adoption of advanced international practice, modern computer and information technologies in all spheres. In this context it was noted that Turkmenistan closely collaborated in this sphere with the leading international structures, including the OSCE.
The members of the delegation expressed the keen willingness to strengthen the fruitful dialogue and implement new joint projects with Turkmenistan stating that the OSCE supported the Turkmen leader’s constructive initiatives aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development. Also the guest emphasized that demonstrating the high pace of development and actively participating in international relations today due to the prudent reformative policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the Turkmen state had won the reputation of being a very dependable partner.
Reaffirming that Turkmenistan and the OSCE stood ready to intensify collaboration, the meeting participants considered the prospects of further collaboration given the ongoing and future joint projects. In this context particular attention was given to the approaches to expanding partnerships, in particular advanced professional training. In this context emphasis was put on the significant role of the project “Assistance to Modernization of Media Law in Turkmenistan jointly implemented with the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
Mrs. Dunya Miyatovich delivered a thematic lecture at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is expected that the OSCE delegation will have the meetings at the Government and the Mejlis, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan to exchange views on important aspects of bilateral cooperation.
