Vanino Port Throughput Sinks 7.1% in Jan-Aug, 2011
OREANDA-NEWS. September 19, 2011. Cargo traffic at the terminals of JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port of Vanino) for eight last months of this year totaled 3,831,100 tons, a 7.1 percent decline year-over-year, the stevedore company statistics said.
In August, shipments of cargo declined 2.9 percent to 550,400 tons.
In the reporting period, Port Vanino handled 1,789,900 tons of outbound cargo, including 624.200 tons of timber (27.7% below 2010’s figures), 85,200 tons of non-ferrous metals and 1,057,200 tons of coal (+11.1%).
In Jan-Aug, 2011, handling of inbound cargoes totaled 961,400 tons, including 832,200 tons of alumina and 85,200 tons of petroleum coke. Shipments of short sea trade cargoes dropped 47.8% from the last year’s numbers, to 173,600 tons. The eight-month volume of Vanino-Kholmsk ferry cargoes was 906,200 tons.
The company handled 791 vessels, including 424 ferries and 36,900 railcars.
Container traffic for the period amounted to 4.700 TEUs.
JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port of Vanino) is the major operator of Port of Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory). The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of Asia Pacific Region. The stevedore company also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. Port Vanino has waterfront of about 2.5-km with three specialized cargo handling terminals. In 2010, cargo throughput of Port Vanino was up 0.2 percent year-on-year, to about 6 million tons.
Russian Government holds through Federal Agency for Property Management a 73.33 percent stake in Port of Vanino JSC; RUSAL owns more than 20% of shares.
