Port of Nakhodka Throughput Down 7.2%
OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2011. Cargo throughput of the port of Nakhodka in January-August 2011 shrank 7.2% compared with the same period last year, to 9.96 million tons, the Port Authority said.
In the reporting period, shipments of anthracite increased by 23.1% to 2.3 million tons, handling of ferrous metals fell by 26.6% to 2.18 million tons, of nonferrous metals surged by 40.4% to 315,500 tons. Exports of oil products dropped 9.5% to 4.38 million tons.
Container traffic also declined by 15.9% from a year earlier to 1,231 TEUs.
In August, throughput of the port was down 9.1% to 1.2 million tons. Box volume slumped 38.1%, to 137 TEUs.
Russian Port of Nakhodka is located in the northern Bay of Nakhodka. The year-round navigable Port is connected via Trans-Siberian Railroad with the railway network of Russia and Western Europe. In 2010, Port of Nakhodka handled 15.32 million tons, a 2.6 percent decline year-over-year.
