Ukraine to Construct Belt Road in Kyiv in 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2011. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov during his working trip to Sumy region has inspected the newly built site of highway Kipti-Glukhiv-Bachevsk, which is a part of the "Crete corridors".
Highway E-101 connects the eastern border of Ukraine with the west. Quality of new road allows to get from the Russian-Ukrainian border to Kyiv for 3.5 hours with a capacity of 6000 cars per hour.
Talking to the workers who built the road, Mykola Azarov thanked for quality and quick work, and stressed that road builders have more works ahead.
"It was constructed 9 kilometres of roads in 2009 and in 2010 – 900 kilometres and we would construct 1.5 thousand kilometres of modern motorways this year. In the first quarter of next year construction of all motorways to Euro-2012 will come to the end. From the West on the East of Ukraine it will be possible to pass comfortably for eight hours. I am convinced, that such paces we will cover all country a network of motorways of the European quality for 10 years", - he noted.
Drivers of transit lorries who had joined to conversation with the Prime Minister, confirmed high quality of the constructed road and expressed a wish that the big belt road around Kyiv would be constructed as quickly as possible as well as that the Russian partners would begun construction of modern roads in their territory.
"Kyiv still now only capital city where there is no belt road. You say that the problem is painful. So we decided next year after Euro 2012 start to construct belt road. This is a very ambitious project, in times expensive than cost of construction of road on which we are. Now we decide on technical solution: build a bridge or a tunnel under the Dnieper. And I have repeatedly offered to Vladimir Putin simultaneously to continue the European route of the Russian Federation. Now I have to ask for more "catch up".
