Moldova Uses New Unemployment Benefit Calculation Method
OREANDA-NEWS. September 08, 2011. It was said by the Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Serghei Sainciuc. He said it is provided for by the legislative amendments approved by the government, particularly, if the unemployment benefit used to be calculated basing on the average salary in the economy for the last year, then starting from July 1, 2011, it will be calculated basing on the average salary on the last workplace.
At the same time, the amount of the unemployment benefit won’t be less than the minimal salary in the economy, but not bigger than the average salary in the economy in the previous year. Serghei Sainciuc said the new unemployment benefit calculation method would take into account personal contribution of citizens left without work and would exclude situations when the amount of the unemployment compensation exceeded their previous wage, the fact that didn’t encourage them to find a new workplace.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that the maximal amount of the unemployment relief used to make up 50% of the average salary in the economy, and an unemployed who earlier had a good salary, could have only half of the average salary in the economy. According to the approved alterations, citizens who received high salaries and paid to the social fund will be able to receive higher unemployment relief that may constitute 100% of the average salary in economy in the previous year.
