OREANDA-NEWS. September 08, 2011. The Port Authority and the company Josef Mobius Bau-Aktiengesellschaft signed the contract agreement on construction works of the object „Construction of the quay for small and pleasure boats and capital dredging of Port waters territory, Kairiu str. 17 dividing the construction process into four construction stages: the I construction stage – construction of protective breakwaters; the II construction stage – construction of the quay; the III construction stage – capital dredging of port waters territory and construction of access channel (Fairway) works; the IV construction stage – installation of bridge and mooring system“ was signed, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
The contractual price is – 38 471920,82 Lt including VAT.
The contract shall be valid for the period of 30 months from the day it has been concluded.
The goal of construction of this object is to assure safe and convenient berthing and navigation of yachts, cutters and other types of small boats as it is significant and relevant to every port. Therefore the construction of the quay for small and pleasure boats is an important step for implementation of these goals.
The new quay will be constructed in the extremely convenient location: in the southern part of the port, beyond the existing navigation channel. Thus, the small boats sailing to the Curonian Lagoon will avoid crossing the intensive navigation channel and the ferry turning basin. It is expected that the quay occupying the area of 11 hectares will attract the boat owners and mangers not only from Lithuania.
The volumes of planned construction works are as follow: the length of Northern and Southern safety breakwaters is 656,4 metres, the total length of quay cordon line is 595,6 metres, the length of the main quay is 396,2 metres, the anticipated amount of excavated soil is 300 000 cubic metres.
It is expected that the quay rendering high quality services will become attractive to foreign clients as well. The construction of the quay that will be partially financed from EU Structural Funds will cost approximately several ten million litas to the Port Authority. Pursuant to the Economic Growth Actions Program the quay accommodating up to 400 berthing places is to be constructed during the period of project implementation. Small and pleasure boats (up to 8 metres) berthing at this quay will be granted exemption from Port dues. This object is significant to society as it is planned to establish a yachting school in this place.
