OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2011. Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) jointly with the Committee of State Control for Emergency Situations and Industrial Safety of Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MES) conducted Industrial Safety Seminar in Aksai, reported the press-centre of KPO.

Representatives of the Committee of State Control for Emergency Situations and Industrial Safety of RK MES and KPO managers and senior specialists gathered together to embrace  many challenges around safe operations at hazardous industrial facilities of the Karachaganak  Field.

Opening the Seminar Serik Akhmetov, Chairman of the State Committee for Control of Emergency Situations and Industrial Safety of the RK Ministry of Emergency Situations, said: “Industrial facilities of KPO are under the constant supervision of the regulators.  I believe that KPO Management takes all necessary measures to ensure industrial safety of its facilities at the Karachaganak field. . We are very glad that today we will be able to work with КPО in this important area”.

Greeting the participants of the Seminar Paul Meech, KPO Acting Operations Director, noted:  “In developing and operating such a technically complex and toxic field, the safety of our workforce is our primary objective.  This is absolutely crucial to the success of our business both for RK and KPO as an entity.  We are proud that KPO hosts this Seminar and demonstrates our belief that working in a cooperative relationship with the authorities in ensuring compliance to industrial safety regulations is vital”.

Victor Vesnin, Deputy General Director of RK MES Research Centre for Industrial Safety Problems, introducing Developing Regulatory Documentation of Industrial Safety, commented: “We often meet with KPO management to discuss important issues related to industrial safety. We highly appreciate the contribution of the company to safety issues”.

At the Seminar, the RK MES officials from Uralsk and Astana were familiarised with the latest developments of the Karachaganak field. KPO specialists offered to MES representatives presentations on such topics as Declaration of Safety of Industrial Units (DSIU) in KPO, Managing Contractor Performance, Intercasing Pressure, Risk Reduction Activities, KPO Training system in Industrial Safety and others.

Closing the Seminar, Serik Akhmetov commented that the Seminar was very useful and fruitful for both RK Ministry of Emergency Situations and KPO.
