The Special Steel Business Unit's laboratory testing and non-destructive testing passed Nadcap (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program), the top standard in international aerospace field successively, becoming the first enterprise in Chinese metallurgical industry to pass the certification of these two indices, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

It symbolized that Baosteel has met the basic conditions of supply to homemade "large aircraft" project and international aerospace field.

The high safety in aerospace field determines that the special process having key impact on quality must reach stringent standards. While Nadcap is a certification project for special process involved in aerospace field. Nadcap is a certification system set up by the magnates in American aerospace and defense industry and United States Department of Defense jointly in 1990. As the global aerospace industry develops, it has gradually become an international prevailing certification standard and is extensively adopted by each major global aerospace contractor. In respect of special steel manufacture, Nadcap certification is mainly classified into the categories of laboratory testing, non-destructive testing and heat treatment, etc.

As one of the specialized production bases of special material for aerospace field in China, Special Steel Business Unit has made important contributions to the development of Chinese aerospace industry for a long time. To satisfy the requirements of material for Chinese "large aircraft" project, while working hard to develop high end material, the business unit launched Nadcap certification from the end of 2009, mainly the certification of laboratory testing and non-destructive testing.

Before that, Special Steel Business Unit was not lacking in the qualifications for system certification and product certification of relevant international fields, but it is a brand new huge challenge to face the audit of international Nadcap special process certification directly and the high requirements brought by it such as total English certification standards, process technology standards and technology management standards.

To that end, with the joint efforts of its members, the certification team overcame tremendous difficulties, solved many detailed hardware, technology and management difficulties, and finally passed the certification smoothly with high opinions from the auditors. Since this certification pays much attention to details especially, the preparation procedure of the certification promoted the overall enhancement of the relevant special process technology and professional management capability of the business unit, fostered many internationalized professional talents and lays a solid foundation for guaranteeing the product quality.

The pass of laboratory testing and non-destructive testing grants favorable start and preconditions for Baosteel to supply to the "large aircraft" project. In the next step, Special Steel Business Unit will go all out for heat treatment certification and strive to expand the certification field. It will also keep perfecting and enriching the specific subjects for certification according to the users' demand and the enhancement of its own technological manufacture capability, carry out the certification in an in-depth way and also apply the experiences gained during the certification to other relevant work of the business unit.
