MPX Executed Construction Contracts with Spanish Companies
OREANDA-NEWS. September 05, 2011. MPX, entrepreneur Eike Batista EBX Group Energy company, executed engineering, procurement and construction contracts with the Spanish companies Duro Felguera and Initec Energia S.A. for the implementation of MPX Parnaiba, in Maranhao, reported the press-centre of MPX.
Site construction works have started this week. The thermoelectric complex that has 1,175 MW power already contracted will be target of BRL 2.1 billion investments. The natural gas required to meet venture needs will come from the onshore blocks MPX owns jointly with OGX and Petra Energia, in the Parnaiba Basin. Petra is also a power generation partner of MPX with 30% interest in the business.
The EPC contract signed with Duro Felguera targets the 675.2 MW installed capacity projects acquired from Bertin, and amounts to BRL 518 million. On its turn, the EPC contract signed with Initec Energia targets the implementation of the units that won the new energy A-3 auction, in 2011, totaling 499.2 MW installed capacity. Initially, upon start up in September 2013, the project will feature an open cycle operation and the final combined cycle configuration will start in March 2014. The Initec EPC contract amounts to BRL 606 million. Both the EPC contracts were signed as lump sum turn key agreements, with fixed price and terms and with execution and generation unit performance guarantees.
The recently established partnership between MPX and GE Energy, one of the leading global manufacturers of gas-driven power generation turbines ensured equipment supply to the Parnaiba thermoelectric complex. Turbine manufacture is already underway and the delivery of the two first units is forecasted for December 2011, and the other turbines arrive early in 2011. MPX has already been issued an Installation License for the construction of up to 1,863 MW, and a Preliminary License for additional 1,859 MW capacity. Plant suppression activities have already started, and the ground leveling works are scheduled for the month of September.
MPX is already implementing an important labor qualification program jointly with the National Industrial Teaching Service (Senai) and the local city halls. This month MPX has concluded the qualification of 198 people and the target is to reach 500 trainees in order to increase the chances of hiring local labor for power generation complex works that should generate 1,000 direct jobs.
