USA Doubled Amount of Grant Provided to Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2011. The document was signed by the Moldovan Government Secretary General Victor Bodiu and the Charge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Marcus Micheli. Particularly, it is stipulated that to boost economic growth, the USA will allocate a USD 10.34 mln additional grant to Moldova to supplement the first USD 10.12 mln grant provided for these purposes.
The additional grant’s resources, like money of the first disbursement of the American gratuitous financial assistance will be used by the Moldovan authorities to support private sector development, to help enterprises extend their present on the home and foreign markets, to raise their productivity, to promote advanced technologies and modern marketing policies.
The financial aid will contribute to implementation of the Moldovan government’s activity program providing for improvement of the business environment, export promotion, competition growth and encouragement of economic activity as a whole. Victor Bodiu drew attention to the fact that the joint efforts’ results can already be felt.
For example, in the first half of 2011, Moldovan export growth rates (+64.9%) for the first time over a long period of time exceeded the import growth rates (+41.7%). In January-June 2011, industrial output grew 9.1 percent, agricultural production – 3.9 percent.
In his turn, Marcus Micheli said the US Government had started implementing in Moldova programs aimed at strengthening private sector’s competitiveness: business environment, private sector’s productivity and economic opportunities; development of productivity of micro enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises.
Marcu Micheli said one of the program’s goals is to provide assistance to creation of the workgroup for revising Moldova’s Customs Code with the Ministry of Finance. This group will have a task – to brin the document in line with European standards.
