Anhui Set for Bumper Harvest
OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2011. Anhui province is poised to see a bumper harvest this year owing to an expansion of planting areas, favorable weather conditions and absence of severe floods and droughts.
Supervision teams have been dispatched by the provincial government to grain-growing cities to trace the growth of rice and corn and promote the implementation of field management rules recently.
Also, agricultural experts have been offering on-the-spot services to grain planters in major crop production counties of the province.
Official statistics show up to August 23, pest control was imposed on 60.4 million mu of rice crops and fertilizers were applied to 24.2 million mu of them; 17.6 million mu and 10.9 million mu of corn crops were under pest control and fertilizer application, respectively; and pest control and fertilizer application each benefited 15.2 million mu and 7.6 million mu of other crops.
The provincial government offered 944 in-the-field demonstrations to more than 100,000 farmers and launched 3,243 training classes, where 380,000 villagers picked up planting techniques.
2 million - mu rice fields in 29 counties including Tianchang, Fengtai, and Huoqiu and 100,000 - mu corn fields in counties like Mengcheng and Xiaoxian were determined by the provincial committee of agriculture as pest control models.
