Uzbekistan Reforms Its Taxi Sphere
OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2011. Uzavtoyul state joint-stock company hosted a seminar on the implementation of the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution of 18 May 2011 on improvement of the activity of the taxis.
The recent years have seen an increase of the volume of passenger transportation services, which are provided by both state and private companies.
The above-mentioned resolution aims to establish a single policy and uniform standards in the sector, with the ultimate goal to improve the quality of services.
The document approved the rules on uniform signs of taxis and requirements to organization of their activity, which will enter into force from 1 January 2012.
To date, changes have been introduced to the rules of transportation of passengers, in accordance with which taxis have to accept both cash and plastic card payments.
The changes in the order of licensing passenger transportations stipulate that the license-holders have to comply with requirements to equipment, external look and signs.
The Uzstandard agency has developed state standards for meters and signs for taxis, while the Interior Ministry has designed special taxi number plates.
The participants of the seminar got acquainted with creation of special taxi stops in the city of Tashkent. So far, such stops have been organized near Buyuk Ipak Yoli metro station, Alay market and the Northern railway station.
