Moldovan Market of Building Materials Demonstrated no Growth
OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2011. The AMMO supermarket’s director general Alexandr Shevchenco said sales had dropped by 35 percent in 2009 in comparison with 2008, all operators had forecasted resumption of growth in 2010, however, the slump had continued, amounting to 3 percent.
Expectations of improvement of the situation in 2011 also failed – the last year’s tendency has remained. In Alexandr Shevchenco’s opinion, both economic reasons and the political instability influenced the crisis in the industry suffered by all building stores. He notes the tendency of transition from retail (that used to account for 60-70% of the turnover) to the corporate servicing – now this correlation is about 50% and 50%.
Alexandr Shevchenco claims the crisis situation has provoked a high level of fluctuation of personnel and the next wave of specialists leaving abroad. According to him, despite the fact that the 2011 season hasn’t finished yet, one can’t expect that the trend will change next year. The building materials supermarket AMMO has worked since 1995 and is among the largest market operators in Moldova.
