It was said by the Danube Logistics CEO Thomas Moser at the meeting with Moldova’s Prime Minister Vladimir Filat to discuss measures of facilitating activity and development of the Port and of the free economic zone working in it to expand Moldovan exports and boost economic development.

Thomas Moser said Danube Logistics had created over 300 workplaces together with other companies working in the free economic zone. Over 390 thousand tones of cargoes were transshipped through the Port in 2010, four times more than in 2009. Danube Logistics CEO said the new terminal – for freight and container shipment – would be opened in autumn this year, the fact that will increase the volume of goods transported through the Giurgiulesti Port. The company also plans to launch the weekly Giurgiulesti- Istanbul cruise.

Thomas Moser said the normative-legal base and the practice of goods control at the border that is too complicated at the moment need to be regulated and improved to facilitate the Port’s activity. He also touched upon other routes of goods transportation from Giurgiulest to Moldova’s towns, noting that it is necessary to develop rail transportation from Giurgiulesti and to repair the M3 road. Danube Logistics – is the general investor and operator of the Giurgiulesti Port. The company was founded by the Holland holding EASEUR Holding BV (80%) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (20%). The port’s territory totals 120 hectares, has the free economic zone status and consists of the oil terminal, dry cargo terminal and the industrial zone.
