Estonian Timber Exports Increased by 40% in 2Q
OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2011. The Estonian timber product export sector has experienced a large increase in sales this year, with more people buying wooden houses and buildings, as KMS Baltics reported.
Figures from the Environmental Information Centre and the Estonian Woodhouse Association highlight the current strength of the Baltic timber industry.
The export value of wooden buildings totalled Euro 89.8million for the first six months of the year, an increase of nearly 42% on the same period in 2010.
2Q figures also show that the Euro 57.4 million exported represents a 40% increase from the same period in 2010.
Wooden buildings hold the largest share of exported wood products, accounting for 14.4%.
Norway was the leading export destination for Estonian wooden building exports for the first half of the year, with Euro 22.4 million worth of products sent to the Scandinavian country, which also represented a 40% increase.
Figures earlier this month suggested that timber wasn't the only exported product experiencing growth in Estonia, as total volumes across all industries were up by 43% on last year's figures.
