OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2011. The first national 863 theme project "metal material surface structure nano reconstruction technique" led by Baosteel passes expert evaluation and relevant research results obtain high praise from experts, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

Since 2001, Baosteel has began nanomaterial and nanotechnology application research in the steel industry, has built steel material surface nano-pilot lab and nano-characterization lab, has made a number of promising results in the preparation and characterization of nano steel material and laid foundation for Baosteel's nano technology production application research. In 2007, Baosteel nanotechnology research acquired national 863 plan special support and aimed to push nanotechnology research from laboratory to industrial application.

With the co-operation among Research Institute, cold rolling mill and Chinese Academy of Science metal research institute, during three years, nanotechnology application in the steel industry has made an important breakthrough. Pickling tension leveler working rolls with nano-reinforcement treatment passed industrial on-line test.

Stable operation over a year shows that after surface nano-reinforcement, rollers can work stably, life expectancy can be increased by 1 or more times, significantly reducing spare parts procurement cost and repair and roll change time and with great economic and social benefits. Currently, the technology industrialization is underway.
