China Airlines Named among Top-Performing Mainline Carriers
OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2011. Aviation Week’s 2011 Top-Performing Airlines study ranked China Airlines as the world’s tenth mainline carrier, making it the only carrier of Taiwan in the top ten list. This honor shows China Airlines' long-term efforts in branding have won acclaim from the largest multimedia information and services provider to the global aviation and is the best mainline carrier in Taiwan, reported the press-centre of China Airlines.
Aviation Week’s Top-Performing Airlines study determines the performance of airlines based on a survey of metrics in three categories: mainline/legacy carriers, low-cost/niche carriers, and regional carriers. Scoring criteria include: liquidity (20%), financial health (30%), earnings performance (30%), fuel cost management (10%) and asset utilization (10%). In the mainline category, China Airlines is the tenth-ranked carrier from last year's 18th and is the fourth in the most-improved list. The top-scoring mainline carrier this year is Singapore Airlines, followed by Cathay Pacific Airways and Alaska Air Group.
The nature of the transpacific market will eventually change, says Aviation Week Top-Performing Airlines adviser George Hamlin. The dominant market, both for local and flow traffic, is going to shift from Japan to China. Due to the China effect and increased access to China routes, Taiwanese airlines are gaining a valuable competitive advantage from their proximity to China, as the enormous potential of this market transforms into rapid growth.
The mainland Chinese carriers such as Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines are continuing to strengthen their brand values, products and service levels to match their regional competitors. In the meantime, SkyTeam alliance has realized the potential of China market by adding China Eastern, China Southern, and China Airlines as members to reinforce its growth. China Airlines will become the fifteenth full member of SkyTeam alliance on Sep. 28th, 2011 to continue offering more convenient service to its customers.
