OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2011. The unveiling ceremony of the special stamps issued by China Post Group ("China Post") to commemorate China's ocean shipping industry was held in Beijing Ocean Plaza. The special stamps were unveiled by Captain Wei Jiafu, President & CEO of COSCO Group, and Feng Xinsheng, Deputy General Manager of China Post Group, reported the press-centre of COSCO.
The ceremony was also attended and witnessed by Mr. Liu Gongchen, Chief Safety Superintendent of the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Zhang Yihao, Chief of General Affairs Dept of Publicity Div of SASAC ("State Asset Supervision and Administration Commission"), Mr. Liu Yanming, General Manager of China National Philatelic Corporation, and Mr. Zhang Fusheng, Executive Vice-president of COSCO Group.
On April 28, 1961, the siren of COSCO's MV. Guanghua opened up the first page of the ocean shipping industry of the People's Republic of China.
At a moment when COSCO commemorates its 50's anniversary, China Post released the special two-piece set of new stamps, with total par value of 2.40 RMB, to mark the developing journey of China's ocean shipping industry. Adopting the design of images of a container ship and a bulk carrier, the stamps embody the themes of container shipping and bulk shipping respectively.
In the backdrop of China's Shanghai port, the container ship themed stamp displays a design from the MV.COSCO Asia, a sixth generation container ship that represents the future boom and continued prosperity of China's maritime industry.
The bulk ship themed stamp adopts the image of MV. Xinshenghai sailing at the Sydney Harbor. The presence of a COSCO bulk carrier at a key overseas bulk shipping port symbolizes the growing international reputation of China's shipping community and the globalization of China's shipping industry.
