OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2011. Nordecon has entered into a contract with Sillamae Sadam AS for the Stage 2 construction of infrastructure at the Port of Sillamae. The contract is valued at EUR 20 million. As part of the contract, Nordecon will also be constructing a sewerage and water network for the Huuru district in Saue municipality at a cost of EUR 3.1 million. Both projects are scheduled for completion by the end of 2012, reported the press-centre of Nordecon.

Jaano Vink, Chairman of the Management Board of Nordecon AS, says that work in the field of port construction and technical networks saw the group's portfolio of contracts grow in August by EUR 23 million. "Our portfolio currently has slightly more structural work than buildings because there's more demand in this area due to the EU support that's available," he explained.

Describing the work that will take place as part of Stage 2 of the development of the infrastructure at the Port of Sillamae, Vink said: "We'll be building a new wharf measuring more than 800 metres, preparing around 40 hectares of land for use as a container and general goods terminal and installing everything that's needed for container crane operations. Six new roads are also being constructed at the railway depot, so the tunnel at its two-tier crossing is being significantly widened. All in all we'll be using almost 10,000 m? of concrete and 6000 tonnes of steel. Hydraulic engineering is one of Nordecon's calling cards, and we've built wharves for the Port of Sillamae before - so we know what we're doing!"

The contracts are valued at EUR 20 million, plus VAT. Work will begin in August 2011 and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2012.

"The other contract we signed was with AS Kovek, and that was for the construction of a water and sewerage pipeline and structures for the Huuru district in Saue municipality," Vink explained. "Like all of the other similar jobs we've done, this one too is being partially financed from the EU's Cohesion Fund. The contract's worth more than EUR 3 million, with VAT on top of that. We'll be constructing more than 8.5 kilometres of water pipes and 12 kilometres of sewerage pipes in and around Huuru, plus a water processing plant. Our deadline is December next year."
