PM: Belarus Needs Biotech Production Ramp-Up
OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2011. Belarus needs to develop its biotechnological production, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich told media during his visit to the Ekzon-Glukoza Company.
The Prime Minister got familiar with the progress made in implementation of an investment project of the production of cornstarch, dextrose monohydrate and products based on molasses and dextrose. The shop to produce cornstarch and products based on molasses and dextrose was opened in December 2008.
“Biotechnological products are highly liquid and import-substituting. The top-priority issue today is to provide the national companies that work in the sector with every opportunity to double the production volume, increase sales on both the domestic and foreign markets. For this, the companies need to implement more innovation technologies, enhance the quality of products and expand their lineups,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
As regards the Ekzon-Glukoza Company in particular, the Premier noted that the company is looking into an opportunity of further development of production of biologically active supplements and pharmaceutical products.
According to Chairman of the Belbiopharm Concern Mikhail Cherepok, today the annual capacity of the Ekzon-Glukoza Company reaches 10,000 tonnes of starch-containing products what fully meets the needs of the domestic market. Last year the share of starch-containing products at the home market made up 75%. This year the company has started using only national raw material. A total of 19,000 tonnes of maize seeds are to be delivered in line with the government procurement contracts.
