OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2011. The total volume of crops and leguminous plants harvest in Moldova this year has totaled 1,094 thousand tones. It was said by the agriculture and food industry minister Vasilii Bumacov, noting that the average yield was 2.7 tones per a hectare.

He emphasized that this year harvest is as a whole bigger and better in terms of the crops’ quality and the country’s food security would be secured. According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s data, over 800,000 tones of wheat have been gathered this year, with over half of them being the food wheat, having a high gluten content, what is important for baking.

Vasilii Bumacov said the harvest volumes had increased owing, among others, to the renewal of the agricultural machines, use of modern combines and tractors, the fact that considerably reduces grain loss.
