OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2011. China Steel Corp.(CSC) holds the second stage of a three-day-summer-camp, The King of Wisdom Summer Camp, in Huashan Elementary School. The rich contents of the summer camp are based on the themes of energy conservation and recycling resources. The participants are the students from the elementary schools in Siaogang District. The summer camp includes two stages. The first one was held on July 10th. All the participants totals more than 150 students, reported the press-centre of China Steel.

Chen Shu-ying, the Principal of Huashan Elementary School, stated that CSC has been putting numerous effort into enhancing the education and helping the minorities in Siaogang District. To those children from minority families, this summer camp is both entertaining and educational. It teaches students how to recycle the resources around them, presenting the environmental ‘friendly concept’, and encourages a positive attitude of learning.

Hsu Chien-min, the general manager of the public affairs of CSC indicated that this summer camp provides children with many activities to learn through practice; their imagination and creativity will be stimulated. Like MacGyver, who never uses guns or violence in his missions, but rather uses scientific knowledge and objects around him to solve all the problems with his Swiss army knife.

Kao Kai-wen, a third-grade-student from Erling Elementary School, excitedly expressed that the water rocket he made flew the farthest, across the entire sports ground. He never imagined that a plastic bottle could become a magic rocket, and now he wants to become an astronaut in the future. “A rich value of life comes from creation, and the diversity of creation comes from learning.” Every child who participates in this summer camp learned a great deal through the diversity, creativity and fun provided by these activities.

The activities in the summer camp include “Natural Science” and “DIY Toys,” in which students make their own rockets through the recycled plastic bottles, recycled paper, and a pinball table from recycled corrugated paper. Through these activities, students learn about different kinds of paper and how to make their own recycled paper. The activity “Group power” teaches students how to know themselves and respect the other people and lives with an open mind. “Physical fitness” lets students understand the different parts of their bodies and the importance of exercising regularly through different sports and games. All of these activities are both educational and entertaining through them children learned the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection.
