OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2011. The passenger traffic at Vilnius International Airport (VIA) shows regular growth in summer months.  185.9 thousand passengers were serviced in July this year, i.e. 26.2% more than July 2010, reported the press-centre of VIA.

“In total, Vilnius Airport serviced 547.4 thousand  passengers in three recent months this year – it makes up 27,2% more than the same period last year,” VIA Managing Director Tomas Vaisvila says.  He highlights that Vilnius Airport is going to maintain the growth rate of 25-30% achieved during the summer season throughout the remaining months.

The growth of passenger traffic between Vilnius Airport and the airports in Italy was most rapid this year. Compared to July last year, the number of passengers to Rome and Milan increased 3.5 times – Italy is currently rated fourth by the passenger traffic from Vilnius and follows Germany, Great Britain and Latvia. In July 14.3 thousand passengers travelled from Vilnius Airport to the airports in Italy.

With 5.5 thousand passengers, the route Vilnius-Maskva witnessed record-high passenger traffic in July – it is the largest one-month passenger traffic in the recent decade.  Riga, London and Frankfurt were the most popular destinations in July.

The average aircraft loading in the second summer month amounted to 77.9%, i.e. 11.3% higher than the same time last year.

Vilnius Airport expects to maintain the growth rate and to service 1.8 million passengers this year.
